Generally, a ceviche is served with raw fish, however octopus is meant to be cooked upon serving in this format. You can use raw octopus, blanch it, boil it, and continue the recipe from there... however a lot of stores also give you the option of purchasing the octopus pre-cooked. I'd say, if you are looking for a faster process, used the cooked stuff... if you care about quality over time, buy raw and cook yourself!

Prep Time: 30min-2hrs (No cook time)

Serves: 2-3

Mise En Place:

  • 1 lb cooked octopus meat (about 2 tentacles)

  • 1 small red onion, sliced

  • Juice of 3 limes

  • 2 tbsp finely chopped cilantro (fresh)

  • 2 tbsp oil

  • Salt to taste

  • 2 Hot red chllie peppers, sliced or diced

  • 1/2 avocado, sliced (optional) - slice upon serving

  • Tortilla chips to serve with

How To Make:

1. Add all sliced onions into a bowl with water and salt to taste, cover and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse and drain

2. Slice cooked octopus into small chunks. Place in a bowl with lime juice, 1/2 sliced onions, salt, hot chilies. Cover and fridge for 30 minutes or up to 2 hours. (longer the better)

3. Take 1/2 the onions, combine in a bowl with lime juice, salt and sit for up the same duration as the octopus mixture.

4. Once all items are marinated and pickled, combine octopus mixture with onion mixture, oil and cilantro. Mix well.

5. Serve with sliced avocado and/or tortilla chips. Enjoy!
